The church of Saint Pierre in Chains in Ménestérol was built in the 12th century in the Romanesque style. The western facade with a portal with four arches and some modillions remains from this period. The nave was rebuilt in the 15th century and is encumbered by an imposing pillar supporting a ribbed vault. The choir has 18th-century woodwork from the Chartreuse de Vauclaire. Two small side chapels were added in the 17th century. It is protected as a historical monument.
Francis Chapelet was looking for a concert instrument for this church. He recovered the organ of the Saint Mathieu de Colmar temple stored in the gallery after a fire. There remained the chocolate-coloured case, the windchest of the GO, some mechanical elements and the front pipes. This instrument with 23 stops had been built by the organ builder Valentin Rinckenbach in 1842 for the old chapel of the hospital, which later became Temple Saint Mathieu when a new hospital was built.
After restoration, reassembly in the choir and decoration, this organ case was equipped with a new instrumental part which was built in 1978 and 1982 by Gerhard Grenzing.
On both sides of the console, Roger Chapelet painted two pictures representing on the left a pond and on the right the church of Ménestérol and two flower pots.
In 2002, Francis Chapelet took over the decoration of the sideboard with fake marbles and gilding as well as the addition of crowning and carved and gilded cheeks.
In 2006, the organ builder J.F. Dupont, with the help of members of the Association, carried out a major cleaning of the organ as well as a revision of the mechanics. In addition, a “Dulzian 8” replaced the small Regal of the Récit. In June 2009, carved and gilded volutes filled the space between the large turrets and the Récit.

The extension installs all artwork into a new OrganInstallationPackages folder (002459) and installs ODFs with new names, but uses the same OrganIDs. This allows you to run the original Sonus Paradisis ODF and the extension side by side without having to relearn the MIDI settings and reprogram the combinations. However, the cache must be rebuilt (Hauptwerk > Organ > Load organ, adjust rank audio memory options …), whenever you switch from the original sample set to the extension. You can also simply uninstall the extension without modifying the original installation if you wish.
The extension works with Hauptwerk™ 4 and Hauptwerk 5™+.
